Description[ | ]
The troops and War Machines subject to Elspeth’s dark touch are feared as dangerous enigmas even amongst other Imperial regiments, using the forbidden energies of Shyish to bring macabre ends to the Empire’s enemies.
Outriders are both the commanders and drill instructors of the Pistolkorps. They are rarely noblemen, but are usually veterans, elevated from the ranks of state regiments who have shown an affinity for horsemanship and a talent for training new recruits. Outriders typically wear ornate armour, for nobles pay well for their sons to learn the art of war. They tend to form separate regiments to display their martial skills to any noble looking for an experienced instructor to tutor their sons. As the Pistolkorps is funded in part by the Imperial Engineers' School, Outriders are equipped with deadly repeater handguns, capable of unleashing devastating storms of lead at range.
Attributes[ | ]
Missile Cavalry
- ▲ Anti-Infantry: Anti-infantry units have an advantage against targets that are smaller than a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against small targets, superior weight used to smash through lighter enemies, or an explosive attack from range that effects a large area.
- ▲ Decent Melee Combatant: Despite being primarily a missile unit or spellcaster, this unit can also hold its own ground when fighting in melee.
- ▲ Vanguard Deployment: This unit can deploy in an expanded deployment area, allowing it to start the battle within striking distance of the enemy - or somewhere unexpected.
- ▲ Fire Whilst Moving: This unit can fire while on the move.
Strategy[ | ]
Amethyst Outriders pose the question 'What would Outriders (Grenade Launchers) be like if they were heavily armored, much better statistically, and their grenade launchers also launched mini black holes?' The answer, unsurprisingly, is that they would be very good indeed. Aimed at clumps of infantry and ranged troops this unit can be devastating, and tank retaliatory ranged fire far better than regular Outriders. They can also muster a much more convincing cavalry charge where necessary, and since their melee stats are virtually on par with Empire Knights they render them practically obsolete.
Overall, though they certainly require more micro than most Amethyst troops, Amethyst Outriders fully justify their Schematics investment, and getting a couple early on in a campaign, where Elspeth's most likely opponents will be hordes of Vampire Counts and Greenskins, can make a big difference.
