Ancestral Warriors are a Grand Cathay melee infantry summon unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III.

Description[]

The Celestial Dragon Empire is thousands of years old and in that time countless generations of soldiers have died in the defence of Grand Cathay. On rare occasions, through arcane means, their spirits may be recalled from the underworld to serve the Empire again, even for the briefest of moments. These warriors will travel back through the waters of the Dragon River, to the east of the Great Bastion, before being made manifest back on mortal soil. The warrior-spirits do this gladly, such is the desire to serve the Moon Empress and her regent.

  • Halberd Infantry
  • Armour-Piercing: The damage of armour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Anti-Large: Anti-Large: Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants.
  • Ethereal: Ethereal units ignore most damage done by non-magical weapons. As they have shed most of their physical form, they are not slowed by terrain-based movement penalties either.
  • Causes Terror: This unit can cause terror, making its melee target rout for a short time. Units that cause terror are immune to terror and fear themselves.
