Kislev's military elite, bearing their heavy armour and heavier weapons without complaint. Tomorrow brings rest, but today they fight.

Armoured Kossars (Great Weapons) are a Kislev melee infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III.

Recruitment[]

Description[]

Armoured Kossars are full-time soldiers, either paid by the crown or simply supported by their wealthy families. As such, their time is spent entirely between training and carousing. They are dour, grim-faced killers on the battlefield, but after the battle is done, they are the most belligerent, boisterous and hard-drinking of all the celebrants at a victory feast. Arrogance, reinforced by undeniable results – these are warriors as good as an ordinary man can hope to become.

Attributes[]

  • Pistol & Greatmace Infantry
  • Armoured: Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Armour-Piercing damage.
  • Armour-Piercing Melee: The damage of armour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Special Ranged Weapon: This unit possesses a missile attack which is uncommon for this type of unit.

Strategy[]

Like their regular counterparts, Great Weapon Armoured Kossars are meant to hold the line while Kossars and calvary shoot or hammer the enemy. However, Their lack of shields and inferior defense mean that Armoured Kossars (Great Weapons) are distinctly squishier than their regular equivalents. In exchange for this their superior attack skill, and the fact that they're carrying massive maces, make them much better to have to have against heavily armoured infantry like Dwarfs or Chaos, or to have as a flanker if the enemy allows them to be unengaged. They won't take a charge and prolonged melee combat as well, but Armoured Kossars (Great Weapons) will remain important past the point where Armored Kossars have to be replaced—Armored Kossars (Great Weapons) can and should be used to flank Tier 3 or even the occasional tier 4 infantry to inflict heavy damage. And when avaliable, Great Weapon Tzar Guard are essentially the upgraded version of Great Weapon Armoured Kossars, filling a similar role.
