Total War: WARHAMMER Wiki

The squires of the 'Beastslayer' Duke are amongst the hardiest of Bretonnian infantry, taking his epithet as name for good reason.

Beastslayers of Bastonne (Foot Squires) are a Couronne Bretonnia Regiment of Renown melee infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer with the Foundation Update.

Description[]

The Beastslayers are the personal foot soldiers of the mighty Grail Knight, Duke Bohemond the "Beastslayer" of Bastonne. They are better equipped than other Foot Squires, donning heavier armor, helmets and wielding large halberds instead of the standard greatswords. Much like their fearsome liege lord, they excel at fighting dangerous beasts and ferocious monsters.

Attributes[]

  • Infantry spear halberd Halberd Infantry
  • Armoured: Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Modifier icon armour piercingArmour-Piercing damage.
  • Armour-Piercing: The damage of Modifier icon armour piercingarmour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Anti-Large: Anti-Large: Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a Modifier icon bonus vs largedamage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants.
  • Charge Defence Against Large Foes: When standing and bracing against a charge of large enemies (such as cavalry or monsters) this unit will negate the enemy's charge bonus.

Foot Squires with slightly improved armour, leadership, and significantly better melee defence (+30!). Alongside a strong anti-large bonus, it is clear that this unit is meant as an armoured defensive anti-large unit. The Beastslayers are useful because they are the best anti-large infantry for Bretonnia, however because there can only be one on a battlefield, they are also vulnerable to magic, missiles, or any other kind of focused targeting to remove them quickly.

The Beastslayers could be useful when you want a very sturdy infantry unit that can also fend off monsters. Factions such as Beastmen, Vampire Counts, and Lizardmen come to mind.
