Total War: WARHAMMER Wiki

Blood River Valley is a provinces introduced in Total War: Warhammer.

Initially, Barak Varr holds the settlements Barak Varr and Varenka Hills, while Scabby Eye holds Barag Dawazbag and Dok Karaz.

Background[]

The Skull River and the River Starnak meet in the Varenka Hills to form the Blood River, which in turn widens into the head of the Black Gulf. These dusty hills and wide watercourses form the actual border between the Border Princes and the Badlands, where the law of Man ends and the whim of Orc begins, and outside of the Dwarf stronghold of Barak Varr it is a rough and barbarous region.

Barak Varr is built into the cliffs of the Black Gulf, where the powerful sea tides have carved out a deep cave system, and is almost impervious to assault by land. It is the only great harbour in the entire Karaz Ankor, and its Dwarfs are unusually adept at sailing, their hardy steam Ironclads a common sight patrolling the Gulf. A major trading centre, Barak Varr is also a more metropolitan and hospitable Dwarf hold than most, and its grand markets and taverns are hugely popular.

Technically Barak Varr falls under the jurisdiction of the Border Princes, but diplomatically it is ignored by the local dukes and barons, as the hold protects them from invasion and they are grateful for the trade it provides. In truth the Dwarfs inhabited the region long before any human did, and it is they who put it with mankind's presence here, for the simple reason the land they occupy contains very little mineral wealth.
