The south of Cathay is a sparsely populated and wild region of canyons and jungle. Instead of the grand, sprawling cities that dominate the north, one is more likely to encounter obscure villages where beastpeople live, sometimes side-by-side with humans. The dry, burning heat of this area suits Li Dao, the Fire Dragon, who rules over all of the southern provinces from Fu Hung. His symbol, the phoenix, is sacred here.
Further south are the Mountains of Heaven, over which the mercurial Monkey King has dominion, and beyond which Ind and Khuresh lie. Though Li Dao disdains the Monkey King he is often forced into humiliating alliance with him to fight back the Naga Lords of Khuresh, a source of endless amusement to the simian.
