Celestial General is a Grand Cathay lord unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III with Shadows of Change.

Description[]
Only the most powerful warriors of Cathay's armies rise to the rank of Grand General of the Celestial Host. These individuals are often Dragon-blooded, though not always, for the Dragons are willing to reward valour and obedience in any of their subjects. Regardless of their origins, each Celestial General is a skilled fighter, and as befits their rank carries weapons and armour gifted to them from the armouries of Wei-Jin. They lead from the front in battle, leaving strategy and trickery to the likes of Wizards and magistrates, their presence in the thick of the fighting inspiring the armies of the Dragon Emperor.
Attributes[]
Melee Specialist
- ▲ Harmony Amplifier: +50%: This unit increases Harmony bonuses for nearby units by +50%. Only the strongest amplifier bonus is applied.
- ▲ Melee Expert: Melee Experts might have a very strong melee attack or melee defence, or high values in both. Some also have melee-focused skills like Charge Defence. Use them to counter other strong melee units. When facing them, it is best to take them out before they can enter melee.

Strategy[]
Though the Lord Magistrate received a much needed buff in Update 4.0, this is Cathay's most useful generic lord to date, for the simple reason that Cathay otherwise completely lacks a counter to small, melee-focused single entities. Enemies like Grimgor and Snikch are devastating since it's difficult to bait them out somewhere where your missile troops can reliably hit them - and even then they're going to be missing a lot - so having a guy who can reliably tank them when your dragon isn't around is a huge boon.
He eventually gets a Longma, which is a help if you want to use him more aggressively and target enemy wizards. He has no magic of his own, so be sure to support him with an Alchemist or three.
Trivia[]
- The Celestial General was originally intended to have a female variant as seen in the Concept Art but was cut for unknown reasons.
- Two unused unit cards of the female variant can be found in the game's files.
