The Central Provinces represent the heartland of the Celestial Empire, a region of rivers and fertile farmland which is ruled over by the Jade Dragon Yuan Bo. It is a relatively peaceful region, without large internal or external threats. Although even here, danger can lurk in the many forests.
The largest city of the Central Provinces is the trading hub of Shang Wu, from where the Jade Dragon rules. The city stands at the confluence of multiple rivers, which serve as highways across the empire, with many goods being carried far across Cathay by river boat -- in much the same way as commercial traffic does on the River Reik and River Talabec in the Empire far to the west.
