Total War: WARHAMMER Wiki

The Chaos Dwarf Warrior's mastery of arms is matched only by his innate cruelty and desire to crush utterly any who dare stand in the way of his infernal objectives.

Chaos Dwarf Warriors are a Chaos Dwarfs melee infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III with Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs.

Recruitment[]

Description[]

Chaos Dwarfs are an unnerving sight in battle. They are brutish, grotesque figures plated in black or burnished armour of heavy plate and jagged scales, crowned with tall helms mounted with flame tongue-spiked crowns or sharpened horns. Their livery is bright and bloody, and their distorted faces, if they are seen at all, are bestial and filled with malice. Their presence is intended to inspire fear in their foes, and they have lost none of the toughness or skill-at-arms of their western Dwarf kin. To them there are few greater pleasures than the bloody sundering of a foe be it by crushing axe-blow or the flesh-shredding volley of blunderbuss fire.

Attributes[]

  • Axe Infantry
  • Armoured & Shielded: Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Armour-Piercing damage. Shields have a chance of blocking arrows, bolts, rifle shots and similar small arms fire - but only in a forward facing arc.
  • Charge Defence Against Large Foes: When standing and bracing against a charge of large enemies (such as cavalry or monsters) this unit will negate the enemy's charge bonus.
  • Contempt: This unit won't lose leadership from witnessing a friendly unit rout unless the routing unit also has Contempt.

Strategy[]

Only slightly beneath Chaos Warriors in terms of melee stats and armor, Chaos Dwarf Warriors act as the elite to your Hobgoblin units early on in a campaign. They're notably far slower than the spryer meatshields sent to the front, but are far more implacable. Make use of them as the anchor of your army early on, shielding either your artillery pieces or Blunderbusses from incoming attacks at the front or the flanks. There's a notable drop for them mid-game if you haven't invested any armaments into the Hell-Forge, given the higher tiered units the AI will start to field. However, it doesn't mean they're unable to hold for a time. With just the slightest bit of investment into the more defensive options such as Glittering Scales and/or Physical Resistance though, and they'll be able to provide just as sturdy an anchor as their Infernal brethren.

Given how cheap it is to raise the unit cap of this unit in the Hell-Forge in comparison to the more elite Chaos Dwarf frontline units, your very first 'elite' army's frontline might comprise quite heavily of these sturdy and merciless warriors.
