Chaos Warhounds (Poison) are a Warriors of Chaos and Beastmen melee warbeasts unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer. A well-placed kennel of Warhounds, set loose on the enemy lines, can thread injury and debilitating poison amongst the enemy.

In Norsca, wolves and hounds prowl in the flickering shadows of the campfires made by the barbarian tribespeople of the frozen lands. The further north the tribe dwells, the more likely it is that the hounds that follow them will be mutants, their bodies swollen by the energies of Chaos. Brutish and bloodthirsty, the Warhounds of Chaos are natural killers built of muscle and fang that prowl the wilderness in ravening packs. They will even charge a spearwall with total abandon, their only concern the moment when their slobbering jaws sink into juicy, yielding flesh.

Strengths & Weaknesses[]

  • Poison Attacks: The poisonous attacks of this unit weaken the target's speed, damage, and vigour. Applies the Poison! debuff.
  • Scaly Skin: Scaly skin or hides help to dampen or deflect the damage caused by missile weapons, increasing this unit's Missile Resistance.
  • Very Fast: This unit can run circles around most other units, taunting and harrassing the enemy or evading its missile fire.
  • Weak Against Armour: This unit's attack can hardly punch through armour and is thus wasted on heavily armoured enemies.

The Warriors of Chaos can have major trouble with fast ranged units that most of their units can't hope to catch in melee. Chaos Warhounds (poison) are fast enough to catch most such units and can kill many of them on their own, but most importantly they also slow them with their poison effective so that your heavier units can catch up and finish off whatever they have snared. This will also allow Chaos Hounds to catch really fast units that they can just barely make contact with on the charge. If you don't have deal with fast missile units, you can also send the hounds after regular ranged infantry, artillery, or into the rear of the enemy line where their poison effect is always helpful even if they don't do much damage. They are also excellent at chasing down routing units.
