The most experienced riders atop some of the least controllable beasts in existence? Prepare to meet your death!

Colossadon Hunters (Ripperdactyl Riders) are a Lizardmen Lizardmen Regiment of Renown melee cavalry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer II with The Prophet and the Warlock.

Recruitment[ | ]

  • Icon effect ror Recruited with: Regiments of Renown Recruitment panel

Description[ | ]

Ripperdactyl Riders are amongst the most fearsome warriors to ever soar across the skies of Lustria. Though Skinks found training Terradons relatively easy, turning Ripperdactyls into sky mounts proved far more difficult. While sustaining many losses, Skinks learned that hatched Ripperdactyls could be bonded with and trained, assuming they weren't eaten alive as soon as the ravenous creature hatched. Skinks who survive bonding with their Ripperdactyls are bold, elite warriors. Once mounted atop their mounts, they forego javelins and blowpipes, for their blood-hungry beasts cannot be stopped from plunging down upon foes. The razor-sharp talons of a Ripperdactyl can decapitate foes — their furious attacks leaving strewn innards and lopped-off limbs behind them.

  • Armour-Piercing: The damage of Modifier icon armour piercingarmour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Anti-Large: Anti-Large: Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a Modifier icon bonus vs largedamage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants.
  • Vanguard Deployment: This unit can deploy in an expanded deployment area, allowing it to start the battle within striking distance of the enemy - or somewhere unexpected.
  • Frenzy: Units with Wh main unit passive frenzyfrenzy cause more damage while their Morale characterleadership is high.

Strategy[ | ]

Similar to regular Ripperdactyl Riders, this unit is a slightly sturdier glass cannon. Howver, rather than having a bonus vs. infantry, these riders have a bonus vs. large. This makes them better for targeting large monsters or flyers. They also have an activatable ability that surges their melee attack, allowing them to do even more damage.
