Beware the Deck Droppers' black powder bombs released indiscriminately – if somewhat inaccurately – from above!

Deck Droppers (Bombers) are a Vampire Coast Vampire Coast missile cavalry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer II with Curse of the Vampire Coast.

Description[ | ]

When Undead pirate fleets attack on the open ocean, the first thing their victims commonly see are the hideous, flying horrors known as Deck Droppers, appearing in advance of their masters’ ships to pepper enemies with bullets from above. A Deck Dropper comprises of a bloodthirsty Fell Bat and firearm-wielding zombie ‘rider’, or more accurately, a zombie being unwittingly suspended from the Fell Bat’s talons, slightly disorientated but not without the wherewithal to fire its hand cannon. Before an attack, the Fell Bats hang in a dormant state from the topmost spars high in the rigging of Undead fleets until stirred by the anticipation that the coppery tang of blood is about to fill the air. Diving amongst their own ranks to grab a zombie, they swoop above the bedlam of battle as their passenger uses their better vantage point to fire round after round into the groups of enemies below.

  • Anti-Infantry: Anti-infantry units have an advantage against targets that are smaller than a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against small targets, superior weight used to smash through lighter enemies, or an explosive attack from range that effects a large area.
  • Special Ranged Weapon: This unit has a special missile attack with limited Icon stat ammoammunition, which can be very useful when initiating attacks.

Strategy[ | ]

A niche unit that does not usually see a lot of play due to the other Deck Dropper variants. The Handgunners have better range and armour piercing, the standard variant is cheaper and better at poking down enemies of all types. The bomber variant is essentially a fast moving variant of the Zombie Pirate Gunnery Mob (Bombers), which is also a somewhat niche unit. This unit excels at burning down clumps of low armour infantry and disrupting enemy backlines with their speed.

It's much easier to position these guys than their ground based counterparts and it only takes a few well place bombs to hurt, disrupt, and rout low-armor infantry. The question remains is it worth a slot, especially given options like mortars which don't have to expose themselves.

One can get more value from these units if they are well supplied with ammo from a Gunnery Wight as their base ammunition is relatively low.
