This colossal predator is made all the more lethal by the team of blowpipe-wielding Skinks it carries atop its massive body.

Dread Saurian is a Lizardmen monster unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer II with The Hunter and the Beast.

Recruitment[]

Description[]

The Dread Saurian is the largest, most powerful and most feared predator living on the Lustrian continent; an echo of ancient days when huge beasts did battle with the Dragons’ ancestors for supremacy. Immense creatures, larger even than the towering Carnosaur, and perhaps even more powerful than the titanic Thunder Lizard, Dread Saurians are few in number and therefore sacred to the Lizardmen. The fury of each one prowling the foetid jungles is moderated only by the arcane power generated from its ornate ceremonial armour. Without this precaution, even the power of the Slann cannot hold the Dread Saurians back, once unleashed.

Attributes[]

  • Colossal Monster
  • Armoured: Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Armour-Piercing damage.
  • Armour-Piercing: The damage of armour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Causes Terror: This unit can cause terror, making its melee target rout for a short time. Units that cause terror are immune to terror and fear themselves.
  • Fire Whilst Moving: This unit can fire while on the move.

Strategy[]

The same as the Feral version with better Leadership and a howdah on its back that provides a poison missile barrage, making it a much more well rounded combatant. It can be viewed as a stronger and more expensive version of an ancient stegadon, but is best used to duel other large monstrous units with its extremely high armor-piercing melee attack. It is very effective at breaking through enemy lines and leadership with terror and fear.

It should be supported against enemy anti-large units and armor-piercing ranged units, and it's enormous size makes it easily focused down if surrounded. Recruiting one is a huge money and time investment, so keep it alive through as many battles as possible. Also keep in mind that in campaign, the capacity of dread saurian units you can have recruited at any time is capped by the number of Crimson Pyramid of Sotek you have built.
