Eastern River Lords is a Grand Cathay faction introduced in Total War: Warhammer III, appearing as a minor faction in Immortal Empires campaign.

Background[]

The Eastern Provinces is a coastal region, bounded by the Far Sea to the east and ruled by the Sea Dragon Yin-Yin. It is the wealthiest region in the empire, and contains many trade cities and ports. It is here that the great rivers of Central Cathay flow into the sea, carrying many boats laden with exotic goods. While Cathay is generally an isolationist country, Eastern Cathay is perhaps the most outwards-looking region, which reflects Yin-Yin’s expansionist tendencies.

The largest of the ports is Fu-Chow, where Yin-Yin rules and the Great Dragon Fleet is harboured. It contains a significant population of foreigners, especially High Elves, and in fact may be the most cosmopolitan city in the world. Another notable city is the port of Beichai, which carries a dark reputation. No matter how many times the Cathayans stamp out Chaos cults in the city, they always seem to resurface. The Dark Elves are also a threat to eastern Cathay. The unfortunate port of Khairith Irlean was located in the east, but was razed by Druchii raiders and then struck from the Cathayan records.

They will get declared war on by Nakai and Lokhir pretty early. So if you don't want to deal with Nakai and Lokhir early, might as well as not bothering to sign pacts with them.

Trivia[]

  • Even before the release of Immortal Empires, the Eastern River Lords' color scheme could be selected in multiplayer and custom battles along with all other Grand Cathay factions.
