Beyond the Great Bastion, the Eastern Steppes stretch endlessly out to the horizon until they merge with the Realms of Chaos themselves. Mile upon mile of empty grassland and cold forest, broken only by the occasional black monolith to commemorate a particularly bloody Champion of Chaos. This was the original home of the Gaspodars, the nomadic tribe that split from the ancient Scythians to migrate westwards and find its destiny across the Goromadny Mountains in Kislev. Those that remained are its inhabitants now: wandering, Chaos-worshipping, horse-mounted tribes such as the Kurgan and the Khazag, who wage vicious running battles with each other and whoever else they run into out here on the wind-swept plains. The Great Bastion was built to protect Grand Cathay from their incursions, and occasionally they gather in great enough numbers to threaten to overwhelm it.
