Total War: WARHAMMER Wiki

Eight Peaks is a province introduced in Total War: Warhammer III, located in The Badlands in The Old World.

In previous campaigns Karak Eight Peaks was part of the Eastern Badlands province.

Background[]

In the central World's Edge Mountains there stands eight mountains arranged in the shape of a ring, forming a great, bowl-like valley. Although it is unknown when Dwarfs came to inhabit the valley, legend has it that it was the Ancestor God Valaya who first discovered it, and, impressed by its beauty, decreed that her followers strike ground there.

In time the Dwarfs would come to build a city that encompassed the entirety of the valley, however that was scarcely the tip of the true scale and majesty of the hold, which stretched deep below the earth and into each of the surrounding mountains. This was Vala-Azril-Ungol, Queen of the Silver Depths, and it was the crowning achievement of the Dwarfen Golden Age, a hold so large and finely built that not even the loftiest elf could deny its greatness.

When the Goblin Wars erupted following the culmination of the War of Ancients, it was considered inconceivable that the hold would be overrun, and indeed the Greenskin tribes that descended upon it made zero headway against the surface defences at first. Even when the Skaven joined in, tunnelling their way into the lower depths, the Dwarfs stood firm, using well-constructed chokepoints where the Skaven's numeric advantage made no difference. It was only when the Skaven hit upon the idea of striking a temporary alliance with the Goblins, and began utilising Clan Skryre's weaponry in the narrow tunnels, that the unthinkable slowly began to happen. After more than a century and a half of fighting, the last hundred or so Dwarfs were forced to flee, leaving the ratkin in charge of their hard-won prize.

Almost immediately the Skaven and the Greenskins fell to fighting each other, and indeed continue to fight each other over the huge ruin to this day. To the Skaven that occupy its lower depths it is the City of Pillars, the headquarters of Clan Mors and Queek Headtaker's claim to greatness. To the Greenskins that sprawl through its upper and surface levels it is Eight Peaks, and it is the rightful domain of Crooked Moon, ruled over by the most devious goblin that ever lived.

Yet the Dwarfs have never given up Karak Eight Peaks. Belegar Ironhammer, direct descendent of the last king of the hold, has dedicated his life to reclaiming his inheritance, and has gathered around him a small but growing army of followers. The forces he faces are beyond number - led by the two greatest foes the Dawi have ever faced, if number of grudges in the Dammaz Kron are anything to go by. But this is a different age to the ones of humiliation and ruin that they have suffered through previously, and it is not beyond question that a reckoning may yet be visited upon the once-crown jewel of the Karaz Ankor.
