Elector Counts

The Elector Counts screen (click to expand)

Elector Counts refers to the various states within the Empire and their faction leaders. These factions count towards the Imperial Authority and Fealty mechanics.

During an Empire campaign, once you own the capital city of an Imperial state, you can appoint (and revoke) the state's Elector Count. An Elector Count, when appointed, gains three major benefits.

Firstly, all Elector Counts have access to a unique and powerful item. These effectively serve as their symbol of office, though they can be given to other lords and heroes if you wish. For the majority of them, this is a Runefang -- a magic sword tied to their province's history. For the wayward provinces of Sylvania and Marienburg, however, they offer other special items appropriate to them.

Secondly, having one of your Lords assigned as an Elector Count lets you recruit that Elector Count's State Troops -- powerful units tied to that province. These are similar to Regiments of Renown, having their own special recruiting menu and appearing instantly, but unlike RoRs, they have a recruiting cost and are repeatable. Given enough time, you could stock your armies with tons of State Troops -- however, it takes time for a new regiment to become available.

Thirdly, each Elector Count has a unique trait tied to them, reflecting their personal history and that of their province. A Lord assigned as an Elector Count will gain this trait and its benefits. These can be quite powerful, and they all share the trait of reducing Elector Count State Troops upkeep by five percent. This adds up significantly -- with the entire Empire unified and all Countships assigned, State Troops will cost sixty percent less upkeep than initially!

Elector Counts and all relevant information about them can be viewed on the Elector Counts screen on the campaign map.

Each Elector Count has access to any one of thirteen Elector Count State Troops. Any one of these troops can be available by conquering their respective region and appointing a Lord as its Elector Count, or by confederating the Elector Count. More than one unit of the same State Troops can be recruited after fifteen turns.

Trivia[]

The Gold Order is not an Elector Count; however, Solland was a former Elector Count that was destroyed by Greenskins. In game, Gelt has been charged with restoring the state, assigning him Solland's defunct seat. This likely explains why Wissenland starts out extremely rebellious, as they controlled the former Solland territory prior to this.

In addition to the Elector Counts seen in game, there are five more voting positions on the Empire's electoral council to select new Emperors. Three are held by the Cult of Sigmar through the three Arch-Lectors (one of which is also the Grand Theogonist), one is held by the Cult of Ulric, and the last is held by the Halfling Elder of the Moot. All five of these positions are hotly controversial in-universe.

There was also once another province, Drakwald, which became defunct about 1500 years prior and is today split between Middenland and Nordland (in-game, the latter being mostly the region around Wrecker's Point). This province did have a Runefang of its own, Beast Slayer, which has been kept by the Emperor since and has traditionally been assigned to the Empire's Grand Marshal. Karl Franz can unlock this Runefang in campaign via a quest line.

Additionally there are two seats that start out occupied by secessionist/hostile factions. They are former states that have been lost through conflict. If reconquered and an Elector Count is reappointed they will provide similar buffs as the other counts:

There are other factions under the Empire tab of the diplomacy screen such as The Huntsmarshal's Expedition and Cult of Sigmar, however they are not affected by any of the above mechanics and function as a normal faction albeit with the Empire racial characteristics.
