Most powerful and most brutal of all Daemon warriors, living only to spill blood and harvest skulls in Khorne's name.

Exalted Bloodthirster is a Khorne and Daemons of Chaos Lord unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III.

Recruitment[]

Description[]

Exalted Bloodthirsters are not only the most deadly of Khorne's Daemons, but the mightiest of all Daemonkind. A single such beast is a harbinger of bellowing death, destructive beyond telling, and lives only to slaughter, maim and destroy all that it encounters. It is the fury of war given form, the unfettered primal rage of the world made manifest. And such should be expected of a beast whose master is the Dark God of Bloodletting, Slaughter and Murder.

Attributes[]

  • Flying Monster
  • Armoured: Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Armour-Piercing damage.
  • Armour-Piercing: The damage of armour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Causes Terror: This unit can cause terror, making its melee target rout for a short time. Units that cause terror are immune to terror and fear themselves.
  • Flaming Attacks: This unit inflicts flaming attacks. Units hit by flaming attack heal at half the usual rate whilst 'on fire' and sustain additional damage if vulnurable to fire.

Strategy[]

Exalted Bloodthirster's are tough, powerful melee monster lords with very high armour piercing values. They do not however have any innate anti-large capabilities in the same way that standard (non-exalted/recruitable) Bloodthirsters have. Instead, they excel in an anti-infantry role which targets high-value infantry and their attack animations are able to substantially disrupt enemy front lines. Their lvl 17 special abilities provide them with some versatility in either disrupting large groups of cheaper units ("Burning Rage"), make short work of mage-type lords and heros (Wrath of Khorne), or to do significant damage to high-value units through flanking, and firing 'down the line' ("Bellow of Fury"). Their flight allows them to take out other flying units with ease, as well as dive into and harass the enemy backline.

Like all large monsters they are especially vulnerable to sustained missile-fire and cannon-type artillery. However Exalted Bloodthirsters are especially vulnerable as they have no innate-missile resistance aside from 'Thick Skin' (10% resistance). This makes the revamped 'Winds of Magic' mechanic introduced in Total War: Warhammer 3 important for Exalted Bloodthirster's as well as their armies, as low levels of stored WoM reduces Physical Resistance by 10%.

As a Flying monster they are prime targets for long-range, single-target artillery such as Empire Great Cannons and Skaven Warp Lightening Cannons, and the AI tends to prioritise these types of monsters over all others. Screening this unit with Chaos Furies while it closes the distance is an effective strategy for blunting the effects of artillery. Another is to 'ground' this flying unit until the artillery has been engaged by flanking units. Once this unit is in melee however, it will brutalise anything without anti-large capabilities and is one of the most effective, and versatile, melee units in the game.
