Feral Bears are a Wood Elves,
Dark Elves, and
Kislev war beasts unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III with Immortal Empires.
This unit can only be recruited by the Wargrove of Woe,
The Thousand Maws, and
Daughters of the Forest factions. With Update 3.0,
Kislev can also use them in Skirmish vs A.I.

Description[ | ]
A common sight throughout the forests of the Old World, the hardy Bear is an intimidating beast. Common to the Empire, revered by the Kislevites, but often feared by both, Bears are not a natural threat to wayward men – preferring a diet of berries and fish. But the wilds of the Old World are as unforgiving as its cities, and in times of devastation a hungry Bear may set its appetite on lost travellers or stray patrols.
Attributes[ | ]
Monster
- ▲ Armour-Piercing: The damage of
armour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
- ▲ Anti-Large: Anti-Large: Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a
damage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants.
- ▲ Vanguard Deployment: This unit can deploy in an expanded deployment area, allowing it to start the battle within striking distance of the enemy - or somewhere unexpected.
Strategy[ | ]
Almost identical to Ice Bears, they are cheaper and slightly tankier, allowing them to deal with normal cavalry without having to pay an extra 50-ish gold per turn. You can use them for everything, ranging from flanking with the vanguard deployment, attacking enemy's large units/SEM,...as long as it doesn't involve fighting against an infantry unit with anti-large.
If the enemy's armies have skirmisher mounted ranged units, it's probably better to bring Feral Ice Bears as Chilling Aura will allow them to slow the said units down to destroy it. While this unit can chase them down with that surprisingly good speed, Feral Ice Bears just does a better job at it. If the enemy only has average cavalry, then it's probably better to stick with this unit.
