Forest health is a unique game mechanic for the Wood Elves race introduced in Total War Warhammer II The Twisted and the Twilight DLC.
It is an innate resource restricted to some magical forest settlements which provides a variety of temporary but powerful factionwide bonuses in five cumulative tiers, usually:
- improvement of diplomatic relations with a race;
- a unique bonus;
- passively increase the forest health of The Oak of Ages in Athel Loren; and
- increase the global recruitment capacity at maximum tier V only
There are a few ways to actively and passively lose and gain forest health which ranges between 0 and 100 (or 500 for Athel Loren). When reaching 100 (or 500 for Athel Loren), it unlocks a unique Ritual of Rebirth that prevents future decay locking bonuses permanently and enables the construction of a landmark.
Magical forests[]
In the Mortal Empires campaign map, there are eight magical forest settlements, namely:
- Forest of Gloom
- Gaen Vale
- Gryphon Wood
- Laurelorn Forest
- Oreon's Camp
- The Oak of Ages (Athel Loren)
- The Sacred Pools
- The Witchwood
In the Eye of the Vortex campaign map, there are only four magical forest settlements, namely:
- Gaen Vale
- The Oak of Ages
- The Sacred Pools
- The Witchwood
Effects[]
Each magical forest has its own factionwide effects which can be improved over five cumulative stages. As the forest health can fluctuate, the bonuses will update each turn should the Tier drop or increase.

Production[]
There are a few ways to actively and passively lose and gain forest health which range from razing any of the four to seven magical forest neighbouring settlements, the so-called Heathlands, to special events, lord skill and technologies.
Increase the health of this Magical Forest to perform a Ritual of Rebirth and permanently restore it. Do this by razing its bordering Heathland settlements or ensuring they are occupied by yourself or your allies. Battles fought within this region or its Heathlands will also provide a small amount of health. Additionally, healing other Magical Forests will provide contribute to the health of Athel Loren.
