Blanketing the steep, tiered sides of the Celestial Mountains on their eastern side, the Forests of the Moon are a central area of Grand Cathay. Rising high into the sky, they are close to the heavens themselves in places, which is why the Grand Observatory, a center for science and astromancy, is located here in Xing Po. Cool and peaceful, the forests are said to be under the protection of the Moon Empress herself, and many of its villages believe she has visited them at some point in disguise, testing their generosity towards strangers.
Despite this, danger still lurks within the trees, as it does anywhere in the world. Isolated Greenskin tribes make this their home, and more insidiously it is suggested that this is a major base of operations for Clan Eshin, who learned their murderously effective ways from the Cathayans in ages past. Since officials who speak out about the rat problem have a tendency to disappear however, these are likely just rumours spread by the disharmonious.
