'''Giant''' is a [[Greenskins]] melee monster unit in ''Total War: Warhammer''.

==Description==

Descendants of the long-forgotten Sky-Titans, Giants are large, lumbering brutes that roam the Old World in search of food and battle. Battle usually comes first, and provides food as a secondary reward. They are easily recruited to fight alongside a Greenskin horde, as this greatly increases their chances of having a constant flow of food, fighting and strong liquor. For the Greenskins, nothing is more worthy of cheering than seeing one of da big fellas putting his foot on an enemy and grinding them to paste. So prized are these lumbering behemoths that rival Greenskin tribes will often fight over a Giant, the winner gaining the titanic warrior for their ranks, the Giant happily eating fallen warriors from both sides.<ref>[http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Greenskin_Roster Greenskin roster]</ref>

Should not be confused with any of the other Giants.

Giant is a Greenskins melee monster unit in Total War: Warhammer. A lumbering Giant is the terror of the battlefield, smashing entire ranks of men aside and feasting on the less fortunate ones.

Description

To most Greenskins, a Giant is a bellowing, cursing display of raw might, ruthless aggression and really large stompy feet - all things that make Orcs and Goblins break out into raucous cheering. There are few sights more inspiring than watching one of "da big fellas" stomping an enemy into paste. Some even earn a degree of fame and notoriety, such as "Little Gork", so named because he was once hit in the face by a stone from a Grudge Thrower and has since believed himself to be Gork, painting himself green before each battle for effect. For their part, Giants are happy to join an army of Greenskins, as it significantly increases their chances of eating regularly and getting their hands on strong liquor. Amidst the endless battles, if an odd handful or two of Goblin happens to get scoffed along the way, no one seems to mind - it's just considered part of the rough and tumble of Greenskin life.

Giants are monstrous humanoids with boundless strength and a prodigious appetite for violence, flesh, and alcohol. They are most often encountered in the far north of the world, being fond of cold, rocky climes. However, some do make the deep forest their homes, whilst others descend from lairs in the World's Edge or Middle Mountains to join bands of Beastmen. Those that live in the forest are a particularly vile example of their breed. Their skin is often covered in green and brown mould, fungus and moss, whilst their long beards are matted and tangled with ivy and creepers. Giants do not make common cause with the warherds, instead following in their wake, joining in with the slaughter and slaking their hunger on cattle and their thirst on looted barrels of ale. Occasionally one of the forest-dwellers might be bound to the will of a shaman by way of dark arts. Such a beast, emerging from the trees, trailing rotting litter, swathed in twisting vines and stinking of rank, woodland decay is enough to fill superstitious soldiers with heart-stopping horror.

Abilities

  • Anti-Infantry: Anti-infantry units have an advantage against targets that are smaller than a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against small targets, superior weight used to smash through lighter enemies, or an explosive attack from range that effects a large area.
  • Armour-Piercing: The damage of Modifier icon armour piercingarmour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Causes Terror: This unit can cause terror, making its melee target rout for a short time. Units that cause terror are immune to terror and fear themselves.

Giants are extremely competent damage dealers, however they have two significant weaknesses: low armor and unimpressive speed. A huge hitbox makes it really easy to focus giants with missile troops and artillery, so you shouldn't make these big guys part of your frontline, otherwise they won't last long. Use giants for devastating flanking attacks or send them in with the second wave.

They can easily kill weak infantry units without any assistance and deal significant armour-piercing damage to lords and heroes. Giants are also highly effective against Imperial steam tanks. As soon as you pin down the enemy archers and artillery, only strong anti-large units can possibly bring a giant down, but it's still pretty challenging due to the massive HP pool and the fact that giants cause terror.
