Goblin Bolt Throwa are a
Greenskins artillery unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III with Omens of Destruction.
Recruitment[]
Unlocked with: Goblin Toolbox
Description[]
The ability to spear a large monster from a distance or to skewer several man-sized creatures in a single shot appeals greatly to the violent and bloody nature of any Greenskin. The bolt thrower, or Bolt Throwa as it is termed by Orcs and Goblins, is a device commonly found in Greenskin armies. Working along the same lines as a giant crossbow, the device fires a single spear-sized bolt at high velocity. A well-placed shot can bring down a row of oncoming infantry, penetrate the armour of a steel-encased Knight or even slay an Ogre with a single shot – which is no easy feat given their considerable girth!
Attributes[]
Field Artillery- ▲ Armour-Piercing Missiles: The damage of
armour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets. - ▲ Anti-Large: Anti-Large: Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a
damage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants. - ▼ Poor Accuracy: This unit's attacks are prone to go stray.

Strategy[]
One of the least impressive artillery pieces in the game, the Goblin Bolt Throwa has relatively short range, a low trajectory, and the same accuracy problems that plague most Greenskin ranged units. This makes its best target by far groups of cavalry and monstrous infantry, which it can hit with relative consistency and quickly delete models. This isn't useless to the Greenskins, who lack for a good counter to large armoured units in the early game. Against SEMs though it's likely to miss, unless the crews are very experienced.
In general, Goblin Rock Lobbers are much more effective weapons, and they are unlocked in campaign at the same time.
