Goblins (Spears), previously known as Goblins, are a Greenskins melee infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer.

Recruitment[]

Description[]

Goblins gather in great numbers under the tyranny of an Orc leader, or in widely-varying tribes of their own. Regardless of whether a Goblin is a lackey under the heel of a domineering Orc or the member of a distinct tribe, they make for lacklustre troops. However, Goblins can defeat an enemy through sheer weight of numbers, especially if they can attack from a flank or even better from behind. Goblins prefer to attack defenceless foes and shooting arrows from a distance is likewise a popular type of attack among their kind.

Attributes[]

  • Spear Infantry
  • Shielded: Shields have a chance of blocking arrows, bolts, rifle shots and similar small arms fire - but only in a forward facing arc.
  • Expendable: This unit is comparably cheap to recruit, maintain and replenish.
  • Poor Leadership: This unit suffers from poor leadership and will easily rout. Keep its flanks secure and your Lord or other encouraging units nearby.

Scrap Upgrades[]

Padded Shields[]

Spiky Bitz[]

  • Cost: 50 Scrap
  • Armour-piercing weapon damage: +3

Strategy[]

Numerous, shielded, Charge defence vs. Large, poor leadership, decent melee defence, Goblin Spears are cheaper and faster than their primary competition for hold infantry Orc Boyz (Spears), but aren't as durable and won't dish out much damage in return. If you want to buy time to be "brutally cunnin" and skirmish, flank, loose arrows, fire artillery and cast spells, then they are the most durable hold infantry very little money can buy till Black Orcs.

Eight Goblin Spears cost a little more in upkeep then six Orc Boyz (Spears) and end up with 560 extra models (and two less army unit slots) to cut through on Ultra Unit Scale. Eight Goblin Spears can easily start sectioning off portions of the battle map using terrain features and grant a secure space to do Mork and Gork's good work.

Wave tactics do not work as well compared to Goblins due to trading already low Melee Attack for more Melee Defence, middling Armour Piercing and requiring a recruitment building. They are a natural meat buffer to damage dealers like squigs and trolls.
