“ | The holy relics of the Lady, the most sacred in all Bretonnia, are guarded by the most fervent and fearsome of warriors. | „ |
Grail Guardians are a Bretonnia melee cavalry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer with the Bretonnia (DLC).
Recruitment[ | ]
- Unlocked with: Cathedral of the Lady
Description[ | ]
The Fay Enchantress is one of the most revered and respected figures in all of Bretonnia. As is fitting of someone who speaks with the voice of the Lady, she is accompanied at all times by a retinue of Knights who defend her to the death. These men, selected from the very best of the Grail Knights, are warriors par excellence, striking down the enemies of Bretonnia with shining blades of justice. Though rumours abound that the Fay Enchantress is none other than the Lady herself, and therefore requiring no earthly protectors, the Grail Guardians care not and defend their charge all the same.
Attributes[ | ]
- Cavalry
- ▲ Armoured & Shielded: Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Armour-Piercing damage. Shields have a chance of blocking arrows, bolts, rifle shots and similar small arms fire - but only in a forward facing arc.
- ▲ Living Saints : Knights who have sipped from the Grail are elevated above mere mortals; they truly are what is best in men.
- ▲ Anti-Infantry: Anti-infantry units have an advantage against targets that are smaller than a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against small targets, superior weight used to smash through lighter enemies, or an explosive attack from range that effects a large area.
Abilities[ | ]
Strategy[ | ]
The melee cavalry version of the Grail Knights, these warriors are still fearsome. They sacrifice charge bonus for higher melee defense. These units are useful in the same context as other Bretonnian knights, however with their high melee defence, they can stay in the fight longer. If you are uncertain of your micro to cycle your cavalry in and out of combat, these Guardians are for you. They will be able to hold their own and deal damage without needing the constant attention other knights require. This is useful if they are caught by units that are faster than them and are forced into a prolonged fight.
Generally Grail Knights are more effective as their ridiculously high charge bonus combined with their perfect vigour, means they can do great damage when used effectively. Again these knights should be used if one is less confident in their ability to use Grail Knights, or wants cavalry with higher melee stats.
