Total War: WARHAMMER Wiki

Fitting Trollhammer torpedoes to a Gyrocopter is audacious engineering, but the safest way to take out larger monsters from afar.

Gyrocopters (Trollhammers – Grudge Settlers) are a Dwarfs Grudge Settlers war machine unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III with Update 5.0.

Recruitment[]

  • Unlocked by achieving the Gnollengrom tier at the end of an Age of Reckoning and recruiting them with the Grudge Settlers Recruitment panel

Description[]

A treasured invention of the Engineers' Guild, it took many centuries for the flying machines known as Gyrocopters to gain acceptance among the more conservative Dwarfs. As the legend goes, the inventor was inspired by watching Dragons swooping down from inaccessible mountain crags, and so combined the idea of wings with the engines from drilling and grinding machines. Although originally used to fly over difficult mountain terrain and drop supplies and messages to beleaguered settlements, the Gyrocopter was soon tested over battlefields with great success. Its main armament is a steam gun, but over the years its firepower has been augmented with bomb payloads fitted into the craft’s stabilisers. In the present day, even small strongholds have an air fleet and skilled Engineer pilots as part of their throng.

Attributes[]

  • Flying War Machine
  • Armoured: Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Armour-Piercing damage.
  • Anti-Large: Anti-Large: Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants.

Unit Abilities[]

Active Abilities[]

  • Gyrocopter Bomb (Trollhammer)

Strategy[]

Suffering none of the drawbacks that regular Trollhammers have - speed and line of sight - Trollhammer Gyrocopters are insanely effective anti-large units, and they should be considered a must-get whenever they become available through the Grudge Settler mechanic. Although particularly deadly against big SEMs, they can terrorise cavalry as well, and have the standard two payloads to hit infantry with too.

Their only drawback is a slow rate of fire, however this can be compensated for by kiting (as this unit is one of the fastest in the game). You can simply run away, turn around, fire, and repeat. Doing well over one thousand damage, even with a couple misses.

Like all gyros they need to be kept away from anti-armor ranged units and flying units, but their mere presence is likely to drag these types of enemies away from the battle, giving your own ranged units a much better chance of leaving their mark.

One thing to note is that these are only available through a 100% age of reckoning, so you can only get a handful, however it is pretty easy to get full age of reckonings during the first couple, JUST DON'T LOSE THIS UNIT.
