Though Cathayan crossbows are infallible, they are nothing without the discipline of the Jade soldiers who wield them.

Jade Warrior Crossbowmen are a Grand Cathay missile infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III.

Recruitment[]

Description[]

Despite its understanding of technologies such as gunpowder, alchemy and machinery, Cathay does not rely upon them in battle in the way the Empire and the Dwarfs do. Rather, their technological advances are merely another tool in their vast arsenal, and one that cannot be replaced (in the eyes of the Celestial Dragon at least) by the strength of conventional soldiers. Soldiers in the Cathayan armies fight in ordered ranks, each one trained to move in harmony with those around it, the entire army often fighting like a single organism under the direction of its generals.

Attributes[]

  • Missile Infantry
  • Armoured: Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Armour-Piercing damage.
  • Harmony: Yin: This unit counts as a Yin unit and gains increased reload skill and leadership near Yang units.

Strategy[]

Available early on, crossbowmen are an invaluable element of the Cathayan roster. Synced up with their yang counterparts they deal withering amounts of damage to unarmored infantry and enough to worry larger monsters and cavalry. Thanks to their armor they aren't quite as helpless as you might assume in melee, but much of your strategy is likely to revolve around protecting them so they can go on being your main damage dealers in the early to mid-game. They should be replaced with Celestial Dragon Crossbowmen once money allows.
