Total War: WARHAMMER Wiki

Karak Azorn is a Dwarfs faction introduced in Total War: Warhammer III.

Background[]

Karak Azorn was the second largest Dwarfhold set within the Mountains of Mourn. It was first built by Dwarfs set on finding the fabled "Mountain of Gold" said to exist east of the Worlds Edge Mountains. It was assailed by Ogres of the Angry Fist Tribe. Ogres are a grasping, greedy lot and once they fix upon a target they are brutally single-minded. The assault on Karak Azorn is a bloody testament to Ogre destructiveness and the driving power of their gluttony.

The Dwarfs stoutly warded the attackers off at first. The Ogres faced barrages of Handgunner fire and artillery when they attacked the front gates, and even when they reached them they found them unbreachable, even when they dragged their Ironblasters in range. Attempts to use Gorgers to burrow beneath the hold were rebuffed by the Dwarfs collapsing their lower tunnels on top of them, burying many of their own as they did so.

The nut was finally cracked when Thogub Smashclub, Tyrant of the Angry Clubs, happened upon a herd of Stonehorns. Perhaps if only one had been brought to the fray, the Dwarfs would have been able to cut it down - but the Ogres captured fully three of the huge, ravening beasts, and then set them straight at Karak Azorn's main entrance.

The gates were reduced to rubble beneath the Stonehorns' tusks, the Ogres were able to widen it and then pour into the Dwarfen halls. The Dwarfs fought on, but they were slowly wittled down and forced to give ground, deeper and deeper into the hold. Finally, the survivors rallied around their Thane in the treasure hall. Surrounded by rubies the size of fists and snowdrifts of gold coin, they waited to make their last stand - but the attack never came. The Ogres, having gutted the upper levels, had found the real treasure - keg after keg of Dwarf Ale. A great bonfire was made amidst the gutted great hall and there the Ogres roasted Dwarfs and swilled ale by the barrelful. Thogub let the remaining beardies leave, for the feast was on. Besides, the Stunties aren't renowned for their speed, and Thogub reckoned that, once the feast was over, he'd soon catch up with them - he'd need the exercise, and a headstart was only sporting.
