Description[]
Kossars are the mainstay of the Kislevite armies, regiments of grizzled and hardened fighters, drawn primarily from among the many thousands of foresters and trappers who keep Kislev's stanitsas and cities fed. They fight with bows and axes, the two traditional weapons of the Kossars – symbolising the woodsman and the hunter. This ornate wargear is wrought to last a lifetime if well-cared for. Many is the wizened old Kislevite who has handed their axe down to their grandchild, telling tall tales of the countless Marauders or Chaos beasts it has slain.
Attributes[]
Bow & Axe Infantry
- ▲ Hybrid: This unit can perform well in both ranged combat and melee.
- ▼ Weak Against Armour: This unit's attack can hardly punch through armour and is thus wasted on heavily armoured enemies.

Strategy[]
Kossars are basic Kislevite foot soldiers, yet they can be surprisingly effective for a Tier 1 unit. The standard variant is armed with a standard bow for long range combat and an axe for melee. They can hold their own against weaker units but fall easily to cavalry and even moderately strong melee fighters. They are best used like other missile infantry, often firing off a volley or two on the front of your army then retreating behind your armored troops.
That said, they will absolutely brutalize most equivalent-level infantry units of their level, despite the numbers disparity, if caught in a melee, thanks to their ability to inflict ranged attrition, and then close with axes once the range is too short. Early in the campaign, this gives a powerful advantage to Kislev, and makes many of their fights much easier. Later on, however, the higher stats and armor of enemy units renders them obsolete very quickly.
