Magical Attacks are a damage channel attacks that ignore the Physical Resistance of a target.
You can check whether a damage channel has magical attacks enabled or not by locating this icon next to the melee attack stat for melee damage or next to the ammunition stat for missile damage. In addition, it can be accumulated with flaming attacks. As magical attacks are not considered a contact effect, it can stack with one contact effect, such as Poison!.
This type of damage can only be reduced with armour and Ward save. As a result, magical attacks can be particularly devastating against those with high physical resistance, such as ethereal units like the Vampire Counts' Cairn Wraiths.
Magical attacks can be innate to an unit, usually elite, or enabled with mostly rarer ancillaries, such as items and banners, and abilities. All Daemonic units have innate magical attacks.
Additional Notes[ | ]
In previous games, magic resistance can mitigate magical attacks.
However, this is no longer the case in Total War: Warhammer III, as magic resistance was reworked into spell resistance which now only mitigates the damage done from spells.
Some units, abilities and items can negate magical attacks which disables them.
