Middenland is one of the provinces introduced in Total War: Warhammer. It begins the campaign controlled by the Middenland minor faction.

Background[]

Middenland is a founding Electoral Province of The Empire, ruled by Count Boris Todbringer. Separated from the south of the Empire by the River Reik and Talabec, Middenland considers itself the voice of the northern Empire thanks to its size, clout and history of producing emperors. Its capital is the famous city-fortress of Middenheim, an almost impregnable bastion built on the white mountain Fauschlag, sacred to the god Ulric.

Geographically and economically Middenland is dominated by the Drakwald, a huge forest that sprawls across several provinces. Though it leaves little room for agriculture, the Drakwald supports a great deal of hunting as well as Middenland's most important industry, timber, which it exports in quantity to the rest of the Empire. It is also home to small tribes of Greenskins, Beastmen and other monsters, who pose a persistent threat to isolated farms and hamlets. Though state troops and forest patrols perform regular sweeps, the reality is that the Drakwald is so large and dark that these malevolent beings will always be able to fall back and hide themselves in it.

Descended from the fierce warrior tribe the Teutogens, Middenlanders pride themselves on stubbornness, traditionalism and courage. Others often find them abrasive and arrogant, but Middenlanders are also known for unifying quickly against perceived injustice. Very much in this mold, Boris Todbringer is well known for resenting Karl Franz for taking the imperial throne ahead of him, but has never let his bitterness get in the way of honouring his duty of ridding the world of Khazrak the One-Eye.
