Military Convoys are a campaign mechanic for Chaos Dwarfs similar to The Ivory Road for Grand Cathay. Chaos Dwarfs use several different resources as part of their Labour Economy, and Military Convoys allow them to exchange one for another.

Details[]

Chaos Dwarf factions dispatch Military Convoys from Zharr-Naggrund to various settlements around the map to trade cargo. Money can be traded for Labourers or Raw Materials, and Armaments can be traded for large amounts of Labourers or money. Convoys have a limit to how much cargo they can carry, with more cargo selling for more profit.

Each available destination will offer a particular trade. The trade offered by each settlement will change every few turns, but a Convoy in transit will still complete the trade that was selected when it was sent out, even if the destination is no longer offering that trade. Each destination takes a certain number of turns to reach, with farther destinations typically offering more profit.

Unlike Grand Cathay which can only have one Caravan active at a time, the limit to active Convoys can be increased through technology or other effects (though only one caravan can be traveling towards a specific destination at the same time). Like with Grand Cathay, Convoys that are returning to Zharr-Naggrund are not considered active. The first time that each destination is visited, a unique item will be gifted to the Convoy Overseer.

The route will be more dangerous the longer it is, the higher the value of the cargo, and if hostile factions occupy the regions along the route. Hostile armies in the area can attack the Convoy independent of dilemmas. The Convoy cannot retreat from any battle, and will be permanently lost if they are defeated. Compared to Grand Cathay caravans, Military Convoys are typically better able to defend against hostile armies due to actual Chaos Dwarf units in their composition and additional units being added more often, though they can also face dangerous dilemma enemies more often (including one where they are forced to fight either way).

Convoys cannot be controlled on the campaign map. Convoy units are fully controllable in battle. Convoy Overseer rank up to acquire skills and can be equipped with Items. The army's starting composition is determined by the Overseer's specific trait, with additional units only obtainable via dilemmas and completing routes. The convoy army slowly replenishes each turn unless it ended the turn in enemy territory or when suffering attrition
