Description[ | ]
A Mutalith Vortex Beast is an utter abomination of nature. A terrifying fusion of monster and magic, the creature has been twisted beyond all reason by the powers of Chaos. Wherever a Mutalith treads, mutation and madness are left in their wake. With a ball of raw magic anchored into the creature’s body, it exemplifies the tumultuous nature of change, as the seething orb of Chaos energy warps and twists everything in its path. The flesh of the Mutalith itself is forever being healed and remoulded, sucked in and poured back out again by the vortex. All the while, these same wisps of malign energy reach out across the battlefield, mutating everything they touch.

- Mutalith Vortex Beast
- ▲ Barrier: This unit has a barrier that absorbs damage until depleted. When not taking damage, the barrier will slowly replenish. Maximum barrier health is proporsional to remaining unit health.
- ▲ Causes Terror: This unit can cause terror, making its melee target rout for a short time. Units that cause terror are immune to terror and fear themselves.

Strategy[ | ]
Hideously expensive as well as just plain hideous, the Vortex Beast can be a boondoggle or an army muncher depending on how well it's utilised. The thing that must be noted about it is that it is a) a huge target and b) has zero resistance to missile fire - and it does not have amazing armour either. It's very easy for range-heavy armies to melt it before it gets anywhere near the frontline, even worse if they have ways to slow it down. Therefore magical support in the form of resistance and regen spells are a must when pitting it against these types of enemies, and ideally flying units being used as flak as well.
Once it does get into combat though it's extremely difficult to stop, thanks to its passives not only being hugely debilitating to the type of anti-large that might be deployed against it, but also handing out a melee attack buff to nearby friendlies. If you're going to make the Vortex Beast investment it needs to be used as the centrepiece of your army, and accorded the same amount of attention that your foe absolutely will be giving it.
