Total War: WARHAMMER Wiki

Sheer brute strength, unending hunger, and barely enough wit to know fear. Nothing matters more to an Ogre Bull than his next meal.

Ogre Bulls, previously called Ogres, are an Ogre Kingdoms monstrous infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer II with Ogre Mercenaries, before being added in Total War: Warhammer III with Ogre Kingdoms (DLC).

Recruitment[]

WH2[]

Description[]

Big, brutish and extremely violent, Ogres are simple and straightforward creatures; they know what they want and use their brawn to take it. Ogres don't do contemplative head-scratching, preferring to smash things they don't understand. The bull-charge forwards is their favoured way to crush any opposition and greedily grab what they like. And what Ogres want is power, respect, wealth and, perhaps most of all, an endless supply of meat to feast upon.

Attributes[]

  • Monstrous Infantry
  • Damage Dealer: This unit has a strong emphasis on dealing damage. If fighting it, make sure to take it out before it can get into firing or melee range.
  • Ogre Charge: When attacking braced charge defenders, this unit only loses half of its charge bonus.
  • Weak Against Armour: This unit's attack can hardly punch through armour and is thus wasted on heavily armoured enemies.

Strategy[]

A fast, high mass unit that can deal high amounts of damage to low armored infantry. Ogre bulls are excellent at chasing down fleeing infantry as well as moving about the battlefield. Much like most other ogre units, ogre bulls are weak to anti-large spear infantry and single entity or large units with better stats than they have. Ogre bulls struggle to deal damage against units that are highly armored in general. Ogre Bulls are the cheaper monstrous infantry you can field in an ogre army, and on the campaign map are quite effective for a good chunk of the game.

These obese lads will be the bread and butter of your early game armies, alongside Gnoblars, they are available for recruitment at any Tier 1 settlement building, allowing you to bloat your army with effective Monstrous Infantry wherever you are. Ogre Bulls have relatively low armour and aren't the most defensive troops, but their devastating Ogre Charge can decimate unit who have Charge Defence, since it only halves their charge bonus instead of negating it all together. They're rather cheap to recruit and maintain and replenish relatively quickly, so this makes them rather expendable. The aforementioned low armour amounts to them being weak against Skirmisher infantry like Chameleon Skinks and Akshina Ambushers, long range infantry like Hochland Long Rifles and Streltsi and missile cavalry like Marauder Horsemasters and Pistoliers/Outriders. You get the point, they're too slow and fat to be an effective counter to most missile infantry, and their lack of armour means even High Elf Archers and Kossars can slaughter them if they get bolted down by a dense frontline of high mass infantry like Spearmen (Shields), well, they aren't a great example, but the shields mean they'll survive a few blows from the Bulls, meaning they can pester them with spears and their bodies. The club of a Ogre Bull is always swung with ferocity, cleaving through swarms of infantry, they do massive damage in high numbers but in classic Ogre fashion, if things aren't going good, they turn around and run as fast as their little Gutplates allow. If they seem like they're faltering or are losing a lot of Ogres, call in your Gnoblars to reinforce, they'll start getting THEIR skulls caved in instead of the Ogres, which allows them breathing room, Ogres are massive compared to Gnoblars, so you don't have to worry about them not being able to take a swing at the enemy, much like how the relationship between Kroxigors and Skinks work, the Skinks take the losses, the Kroxigors deal the damage.
