"We'z still callin' em choppas!"

Orc Boyz (Spears) are a Greenskins Greenskins melee infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III with Patch 5.2.

Recruitment[ | ]

Description[ | ]

Orcs, often known as Orc Boyz or just "da boyz", are the hard-fighting infantry found at the heart of most Greenskin tribes. Goblins are more prolific, but it is the Orcs that do the bulk of the bloody work in most battles. That is okay with all parties, as Orcs are a warrior race and there is nothing they like half as much as a good scrap. In fact, it is hard to get Orcs to stop fighting. They are an overly pugnacious lot and if no one else is around they will pummel each other just to keep their spirits up. Luckily, Orcs do not register pain as do other races. A typical green-skinned lout won't let a minor injury, such as a severed limb, keep him from fighting. Orcs are so tough and resilient that if the arm can be found and sewn back on (however crudely) it will heal quickly. Orcs naturally take their robust physique for granted and regard everyone else as weak, puny or "squishy".

Attributes[ | ]

  • Infantry spear Spear Infantry
  • Shielded: Shields have a chance of blocking arrows, bolts, rifle shots and similar small arms fire - but only in a forward facing arc.
  • Anti-Large: Anti-Large: Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a Modifier icon bonus vs largedamage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants.

Strategy[ | ]

Greenskins usually rely on a strong offensive front to win engagements, rendering a more defensive unit like this less useful than standard Boyz, but this is still a cheap and reasonably effective anti-large option for the early game. Whether you'll get use out of them in campaign is heavily dependent on what you're up against. In campaign for instance, Gorbad and Azhag will be neck deep in Dwarfs, making these more or less pointless. However if you're playing as Grom or Grimgor you'll be fighting a lot of cavalry and Ogres respectively, making some chunky spearmen a valuable addition.
