The flame of the Lady goes with this arrow, and so too the low-born archer before long...

Peasant Bowmen (Fire Arrows) are a Couronne Bretonnia missile infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer with Bretonnia (DLC).

Recruitment[ | ]

  • Construction Unlocked with: Farm

Description[ | ]

Although they speak their vows of duty, the peasants of Bretonnia do not understand. It is not their business to understand or to think - only to do. They do not know why they are summoned to fight - these things being beyond their regard - yet when the Greenskin hordes are bearing down upon them, low-born men know they must fight or die. Sometimes they are fortunate enough to be armed with rudimentary weapons; bows, with arrows drenched in oil and lit, or dipped in diseased buboes. Unlike Men-At-Arms, Peasant Bowmen are not equipped from the armouries of the castle and so their longbows will often be their own possessions, handed down from father to son and, accordingly, are of variable quality. Peasants who survive a battle may think themselves lucky until they too are stricken by fatal pox, mayhaps from a cut received whilst loading their unfamiliar and cumbersome weapons!

Attributes[ | ]

  • Missile infantry bow Missile Infantry
  • Good Range: This unit has a larger range than most other units of the same class. This allows it to take out hostile missile units before they can come into firing range.
  • Weak Against Armour: This unit's attack can hardly punch through armour and is thus wasted on heavily armoured enemies.
  • Poor Accuracy: This unit's attacks are prone to go stray.
  • Poor Leadership: This unit suffers from poor leadership and will easily rout. Keep its flanks secure and your Lord or other encouraging units nearby.

Strategy[ | ]

Use them against units with fire vunlerability, such as the treekin units of the Wood Elves or the regenerating units of the Vampire Counts (Crypt Horrors, Vargulfs, Lords, Vampire heroes, etc). Aside from that, these bowmen are generally a less economical choice than the other variants.

Fire arrows deal 23/1 damage (regular/armor piercing) compared to 16/3 for the other two types of archers. This means against normal units without special interactions with fire damage, they will deal equal damage against targets with ~70% damage reduction from armor (equivalent to Grave Guard, Longbeards or Greatswords). For higher armor units like Black Orcs or Steam Tanks the regular or pox arrows bowmen will actually deal more damage, but against lighter than 70% armor the fire arrows will deal more.
