- Not to be confused with the faction previously known as Sylvania, The Drakenhof Conclave.
Sylvania (previously known as Von Carstein) is a playable faction of Vampire Counts introduced in Total War: Warhammer. It is led by Vlad von Carstein and can typically be found in Southern Sylvania. Sylvania starts with Isabella von Carstein as a Legendary Hero. If Isabella von Carstein is chosen by the player to be Sylvania's Legendary Lord then Vlad von Carstein will become the Legendary Hero.
The Midnight Aristocracy have long struck terror into the hearts of the mortal races. From their lairs deep in Sylvania, the Vampire Counts strike out against the living with their massed armies of the eager dead.
How They Play[ | ]
- Ensure Vlad and Isabella fight in the same army to give them improved prowess in battle.
- Construct the Mausoleum of the Mad Count at Castle Drakenhof for early recruitment of higher-ranked Vampire Heroes.
- Assassinate enemy Lords and faction leaders or fell them in battle to collect Blood Kisses for the awakening of powerful Bloodline Lords.
- Raise the dead from your Lords' localities to instantly recruit units without training time and quickly muster large armies.
- Spread Vampiric corruption across the land to disable attrition for Undead armies and blight the living as you increase the chances of Undead uprisings.
Campaign[ | ]
“ | The world will drown in blood!” | „ |
From the icy Sea of Claws in the north to the soaring Black Mountains in the south, the individuality of the Empire's provinces is much defined by its landscape. Its vast forest provide food and materials of production, while wide rivers and traversable valleys facilitate trade and transport. Yet at times, the land itself seems to strive against progress, concealing monsters and enemies of all sorts amongst its craggy passes and dark groves. Peril awaits within and without, but the nations of men have thus far proved equal to the challenge...
Vlad has returned home to his rightful seat at Castle Drakenhof to rule over Sylvania with his wife Isabella at his side.

Diplomatic Traits[ | ]
When controlled by the AI, Sylvania will have the following diplomatic traits:

- Subjugator - Aims to dominate and vassalise the enemy rather than eliminating them.
- Protective - In war, prefers to expand slowly, consolidates before moving forward. Fiercely protects own lands, and wipes out harmful corruption.

Victory Conditions[ | ]
These are actually quite different from the Vampire Counts main faction. The player no longer needs to defeat the forces of Chaos, nor defeat the Dwarfs for the long campaign objective. Instead the aim is to unite with the main Vampire Counts faction, and in the long campaign to unite with Mousillon and defeat the Bretonnia sub-factions Bordeleaux and Carcassonne. (As of 2022 defeating the Bretonnia factions is no longer required.)
- Short Campaign

- Control the following 1 settlement, either by direct ownership or through vassals and military allies:

- Destroy the following faction(s):
- Control the following 2 settlements, either by direct ownership or through vassals and military allies:
- (as of 2022 the long campaign requires) Control at least 17 of the following, either by direct ownership or through vassals and military allies:
- Courconne, Castle Drakenhof, Altdorf, Oak of Ages, Miragliano, Skavenblight, Kislev, Hell Pit, Karaz-A-Karak, Karak Eight Peaks, Black Crag, Lahmia , Khemri, Itza, Hexoatl, Naggarond, Lothern, Gaean Vale, The Awakening, The Galleon's Graveyard, Sartosa
Known Issues[ | ]
- Isabella von Carstein has a bug in multiplayer where she receives Throgg's Wintertooth Crown payload mission rather than the Blood Chalice of Bathori payload mission. This is due to a developer error where Isabella's Blood Chalice of Bathori questline is mistakenly scripted to proceed with Throgg's Wintertooth Crown quest instead of her own. As this mission can only be completed by Throgg, Isabella is unable to complete the mission to obtain the Blood Chalice and receives no rewards.
- A mod that fixes this error can be found here.
Trivia[ | ]
- They were introduced in a free content update in February 2017, alongside Bretonnia.
