Total War: WARHAMMER Wiki

Depthless Daemonic malice and a low tolerance for boredom incite the Changeling’s ever-shifting schemes... and appearance.

The Changeling is a Tzeentch Legendary Lord unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III with Shadows of Change. In the campaign, he leads The Deceivers.

Description[]

The Changeling personifies the part of Tzeentch’s psyche that is the meddler, the deceiver, the trickster. He can take the form of other beings, from the tiniest of insects to the most massive of Greater Daemons. None, save for perhaps Tzeentch himself, know the Changeling’s true form, for he goes cowled and cloaked when in his own shape – perhaps even the Changeling himself has forgotten it. That so many of his pranks have caused terrible wars is no concern to him, for he loves the discord of conflict to breed more opportunities to deceive and dismay. When battle begins, the Changeling is wont to adopt the shape and skill of his foes, in turn pounding them to pieces with malicious enthusiasm and borrowed muscle.

Introduction description[]

An eternity of meddling in the Chaos Realm inevitably led Tzeentch’s brother-Gods to vie for the Changeling’s destruction.

For it was the Changeling who cut away Slaanesh’s hair as the Dark Prince slept to weave a cloak presented to a champion of Tzeentch. It was the Changeling who sealed the doors of Khorne’s citadel while he was campaigning, forcing the Blood God to shatter his own proud gates when he returned.

Yet it is the Daemon’s boredom with such inanities of the Great Game, rather than the ire of the Chaos Realm, that leads him to the Old World to seek greater tapestries of disruption. By the time the deceiving horror becomes known to his victims, be they kings, emperors, or even gods, they will be impotent to act against him.

Strategy[]

Click here to add a strategy! Effective use of the Changeling is all about choosing the best transformation. In my unbiased and professional opinion, Be'lakor is the best all-around lord to impersonate, as he is a great dualist, is very tanky, can fly and is a spellcaster. Other highlights include Archeon, Skarbrand, Ku'Gath and Kairos. You can change up your form before any offensive battle, so its best to check if you have the perfect lord for the job before defaulting to your favorite.

A very important thing to note is that (with the respective skills researched) the character you transform into will be their online counterpart, and will therefor have the abilities befitting said preset for better or worse. Thanks to this, you can have the effect of multiple equipment items in the same slot, those being the ones naturally equipped to the lord online, and the ones you equipped to the Changeling in campaign. For example: when transformed into Be'Lakor, you will have access to his "Blade of Shadow" passive ability even if you have an item such as the Chainsword in your weapon slot, getting the benefits of both. This fact can be used to stack powerful abilities and make a truly overpower lord

Trivia[]

The Changeling's Decoy has a unique description in the unit's card:"Hahaha! You think this is the real Changeling? IT IS."
