Bullet icon grudges The Great Book of Grudges is a unique mechanic for the Dwarfs factions in the campaign mode.

Dwarfs in Warhammer Fantasy are a vengeful race that does not forget any slight, no matter how minor.

How it works

Grudges are a unique Karaz-a-Karak Dwarfs game mechanic focusing on missions which task the player with seeking revenge for attacks on their faction. Grudges might tell the player to kill an enemy lord, assassinate an enemy hero, or conquer an enemy settlement (razing it to the ground if necessary). Players can view all current and avenged grudges by clicking The Great Book of Grudges button, which is at the bottom right of the screen on the campaign map. Next to this button is a small number, allowing you to see the current number of grudges at a glance.

Each grudge that appears in the Great Book has a base severity value. When viewing the campaign map, the total sum severity of all grudges can be seen at the top-center of the screen on the Grudges Bar. If you ignore a grudge, its severity will increase over time.

Some grudges can be cancelled without being completed, much like regular missions (for example, if it targeted a faction that no longer exists). While this makes the rewards unobtainable, a cancelled grudge will at least no longer affect Severity either.

Letting grudges pile up and increase in severity will incur faction-wide penalties to public order, research rate and diplomacy with other Karaz-a-Karak Dwarfs factions . This represents your own people and other Dwarfs disapproving of your leadership. Conversely, chances for Slayers, the base unit and Giant Slayers, to be added to the Regiments of Renown for free become very high. This represents your own people feeling ashamed for this actions and signing up to right the wrongs.

In Total War: Warhammer II, each Dwarf Legendary Lord is given unique Grudges to satisfy that help steer their campaigns. This carries over into Total War: Warhammer III.
