Total War: WARHAMMER Wiki

The Great Canal is a province introduced in Total War: Warhammer III, located in the Far East.

Background[]

Stretching for hundreds of miles through and beyond southern Cathay, the Great Canal is a feat of engineering almost on the same scale as the Great Bastion itself. Built to connect the rivers of the Celestial Riverlands to the Far Sea, it provides Cathayan shipping a protected route to the Gates of Calith and the sealanes to Lothern, Araby and the Old World beyond.

The canal is impossible to cross by foot in most places, and the peasants on either side near the middle may as well be separated by an ocean. Bamboo Crossing is one of the few exceptions, a large settlement featuring a huge bridge constructed of bamboo which sees a lot of traffic. The canal is also built so that it can be drained wholesale in times of crisis, such that the plains on either side can be completely flooded. This comes at the cost of ruining the lives of tens of thousands of peasants, but this is seen as a trifling cost to pay to block the advance of malevolent monkeys and serpents from the south.
