Dark and dense forest blankets the foothills west of the Mountains of Heaven. Travellers and caravans on the Spice Route know to give these trees a wide berth, because they are cursed with un-life; appearing to be dead and rotting, but continuing somehow to thrive. Vampires, possibly refugees of the destruction of Lahmia, tainted them with their magic long ago for unknown reasons.
It is similarly unknown how Helman Ghorst came to know about the forest. Perhaps he learned of it during his obsessive study of the various necromantic tomes he has collected over the years. Whatever the reason, he has sailed far from his Imperial homeland to occupy these woods and, deep within, seeks to tap their foul power.
