The Scions of Mathlann (Spearmen) is a High Elves Regiments of Renown unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer II with The Queen and the Crone DLC. Defenders of Cothique and chosen by the Lord of the Deeps himself.

Description[edit | edit source]

This brotherhood of Cothique claim to be the chosen of the Lord of the Deeps, and few dispute their right to do so. Many times when the Scions of Mathlann have fought in defence of their coastal kingdom, a vast sea creature has risen from the depths to destroy the fleet of their foes. So do they offer great praise to Mathlann lest they fall from their fickle master's favour and one of his progeny emerge not to deliver salvation, but divine punishment.

Attributes[edit | edit source]

  • Anti-Large: Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants.
  • Charge Defence Against All: When standing and bracing against a charge this unit will negate the enemy's charge bonus.
  • Magical Aura: This unit is surrounded by one or more magical auras that either support nearby friends or harm its foes.
  • Shielded: Shields have a chance of blocking arrows, bolts, rifle shots and similar small arms fire - but only in a forward facing arc.

Their aura provides +12% damage resistance in a radius so long as Winds of Magic are above 50% (15 Winds). They also have expert charge defence over the charge defence against large of normal Spearmen. These spearmen are a stalwart anchor that will bog down opponents for a while with their high melee defence and damage resistance. Use as a pivotal roadblock to shore up the front.
