For the sake of all Kislev, the Tzarina permits her personal bodyguards to fight alongside the common man.

Tzar Guard are a Kislev Kislev melee infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III.

Recruitment[ | ]

Description[ | ]

Regiments of hardened warriors, formed of lesser nobles and veteran soldiers elevated to higher status from the ranks of the Kossars, the Tzar Guard are formidable, durable melee troops. Originally, they were instituted to serve as the Tzar’s personal retinue, and while he would invariably travel with a large warband of Tzar Guard at his back, almost every army of Kislev now boasts a regiment or two of these hardened warriors. This is because every Boyar and Marshal needs a steady core to their army – veteran warriors able to act as the bulwark of the Kislevite battle line.

Strategy[ | ]

Tzar Guard are tough melee fighters that can hold the line against most adversaries while most ranged troops provide support and cavalry units deliver charges to the flank.

These guys are pricey and serve as excellent elite troops and emergency line-patchers, the Tzar Guard should be used in unison with Armoured Kossars, especially since these units are too expensive to maintain as the battle line of every army, the upkeep of them will bleed your economy, but their outstanding defence stats make up for it.

The Tzar Guard have massive melee defence but have relatively average attack, keep them defending heroes, lords and vital units, or of course just a steel frontline. Unlike basically every Kislevite infantry unit, Tzar Guard do not have a secondary attack option, Kossars have axes, Armoured Kossars have pistols, but Tzar Guard are exclusively sword infantry. This prevents them from gaining the ability to whittle down an enemy melee regiment before fighting them, like how Kossars do. This trait is also shared by the Tier 1 Halberd Infantry, Kislevite Warriors, unfortunately they are exclusive to Shadows of Change, so you'll be using only Tzar Guard as exclusive melee infantry for the whole campaign, unless of course you own the DLC.
