Total War: WARHAMMER Wiki

War coordination and allegiance is a campaign mechanic in Total War: Warhammer III common to all races and factions. It is linked with diplomacy.

War coordination is available if you have a military alliance or defensive alliance with another faction, or if another faction is your vassal. You can access the War coordination screen by opening the diplomacy screen, then clicking the War coordination button in the bottom center.

Allegiance[]

Allegiance is a resource/currency which you can use to perform actions in the War-coordination screen. Allegiance represents how much trust an ally or vassal has in you, and how willing they are to agree to your requests. You have a different amount of allegiance for each ally or vassal. The maximum value is 100. Allegiance is gained by:

  • Passive income income every turn
  • Completing Ally Missions - missions set by your ally or vassal for you, generally to attack your mutual enemies' armies or settlements or do hero actions against them, which rewards you with more allegiance with that ally or vassal. Note there is no penalty for not completing Ally Missions.
  • Constructing Outposts in allied/vassal settlements.

War coordination actions[]

Set Target[]

You can tell your ally or vassal to take certain actions towards your mutual enemies, or to defend your settlement or their own settlement. Each order lasts a certain number of turns, unless cancelled beforehand.

  • Attack target - cost: 10 allegiance
  • Defend target - cost: 10 allegiance
  • Occupy target - cost: 10 allegiance

Outposts[]

Not to be confused with Norsca settlements, Warriors of Chaos settlements or Wood Elves settlements.

You can construct special Outpost buildings in your ally or vassal's major settlements. This does 3 things:

  • First, it generates more allegiance with that faction every turn.
  • Second, it adds some of your faction's units to the garrison of the settlement. This also means you might see an ally's units in your own garrison, meaning there's an ally's outpost there.
  • Third, it allows you to use Allied Recruitment to recruit some of the ally faction's units. This depends on what is available in the province. Stronger units will cost more Allegiance. Other than Allegiance, these units are essentially free (besides upkeep) and come from their own recruitment capacity.
    • For instance, if I am playing a Kislev faction and I ally with a Dwarfs faction, I might be able to recruit Gyrocopters.
    • There's a limit to how many units in an army can be from Allied Recruitment (usually 4/20 maximum, across all allies).
    • Note that the value of this mechanic can be greatly lessened for certain ally factions. Horde factions will generally only offer a few basic units from their normal settlements, as will Ogres (even though the outpost preview may show more options) and Wood Elves, if their one major settlement is already taken by another ally.

Beware: an Outpost can be destroyed if the settlement is razed. If the alliance treaty is broken, outposts are instantly removed for both parties.

Outpost buildings[]

Tier 2 and 3 Outposts require a military alliance or vassal to be built, except for High Elves, who are able to upgrade their outposts to Tier 3 even with a defensive ally. Outposts cannot be built in a settlement where another faction already has an outpost and would replace other additional structures, such as a Skaven Under-City the player may already have in the same settlement. Existing outposts can be moved for the same building cost and time as their current level.

Request Army[]

You can spend allegiance to borrow an ally or vassal's army for a set number of turns, after which the army (or what's left of it...) will be returned to the ally's control. This can be extremely useful, but costs a lot of allegiance. Restrictions: they need to have an army, and their faction leader's army cannot be requested.

As of update 2.4.0 there is currently an exploit in this mechanic:

  • A hero with the immortal skill is in an ally's army.
  • You borrow the army.
  • The hero is wounded while under your control.
  • The hero will go into your own hero pool, to be recruited.
  • You have essentially stolen that hero from your ally.
  • This allows you to get heroes which are not from your race and keep them.

Ally Missions[]

  • Allies will occasionally issue missions targeting lords from a shared enemy faction. The missions are available to accept for 3 turns and only one mission can be active from each ally (with multiple allies, its possible to have multiple missions targeting the same lord, however). Defeating the target will award Allegiance, but if they are defeated by someone else, the mission will be aborted.
