The Wastelands of Jinshen are a remote border region of Grand Cathay south of the Warpstone Desert. Hanyu Port is the first major river port on the Great River which runs out of the Mountains of Mourn and feeds the Celestial Riverlands and the steaming jungles beyond. Outside of it, the Wastelands are a hot, dusty backwater whose lack of oversight attracts alchemists, dissidents and the shadowy ratmen that have long plagued Cathay. The fact it commands the virtually forgotten southern entrance to Cathay - through the rocky passes of Gnoblar Country - further represents a soft spot on the Dragon Emperor's underbelly.
