Galloping to war with Orion, his personal guard bring a calamity to all who stand against them.

Wild Riders (Shields) are a Talsyn Wood Elves melee cavalry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer with Realm of The Wood Elves.

Recruitment[ | ]

Description[ | ]

The Wild Riders of Kurnous are Orion's personal guard, each as aggressive and impulsive as he. They are fey and dangerous creatures who are no longer truly the Elves they once were. Now and forever, they are a part of the Wild Hunt's eternal glory. In appearance, Wild Riders are throwbacks to the ancient days of the Elves. Their weapons are things of crude iron, or even flint; their ceremonial robes and armour seldom more than the pelts of animals slain during their sacred hunts. Yet there is an otherworldliness and nobility about the Wild Riders that cannot easily be denied; the power of Kurnous flows through them as surely as it does through Orion.

Wild Riders are a powerful cavalry unit. They initially seem like light cavalry meant to harass enemies and they are, however they are much stronger than most light cavalry. With the proper support from a Glade Lord or magic they can become high damage dealing mobile units. They have high speed, decent melee stats, and a high charge bonus that allows them to hit hard and fast. They do not have the most armour piercing so be aware that against Dragon Princes or Demigryph Knights they will struggle. Their survivability is partially helped by their 20% physical resistance so be sure to keep them away from magic damage when possible. Their armour is also low, so they cannot endure too much punishment. Use the Lore of Life to keep them at max fighting capacity. Overall they should be used to defend your archers and harass the enemy or as hunters designed to eliminate key enemy units or characters. The shields on this unit protect them from over half of ranged damage and add a little to their melee defence at a higher price.
