Winged Lancers are a Kislev melee cavalry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer III.
Recruitment[]
Kislev
Unlocked with: Oblast Stajin
Kislev Expedition
Unlocked with: Livery
Description[]
Every settlement large enough will support a rota of Kislevite Winged Lancers, a cavalry squadron of hardy, well-trained warriors who form the offensive heart of almost every Kislev army. They are also a potent psychological weapon, for at full gallop they cause the very air to shudder and roar. Becoming a Kislev Winged Lancer takes dedication and effort... and a great deal of money to afford the thoroughbred steed, mail coat, breastplate and helm. Only skilled warriors are accepted into their ranks, for a stanitsa can ill-afford to equip layabouts, cowards or dolts in such a manner.
Attributes[]
Shock Cavalry
- ▲ Armoured & Shielded: Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from
Armour-Piercing damage.
Shields have a chance of blocking arrows, bolts, rifle shots and similar small arms fire - but only in a forward facing arc.
- ▲ Anti-Infantry: Anti-infantry units have an advantage against targets that are smaller than a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against small targets, superior weight used to smash through lighter enemies, or an explosive attack from range that effects a large area.
Unit Abilities[]
Passive Abilities[]
Strategy[]
Winged Lancers are a step up from Kossovite Dervishes, and are better suited for charging enemy lines or flanks. Their better stats mean they can take more abuse before routing but like other shock cavalry, they tend to weaken in prolonged melee. It is best to charge, withdraw, then charge again in many cases. This is further reinforced by the Winged Lancers higher than average speed stat, which allows them to outrun other heavy cavalry types of other factions.
Following the Patch 4.2 Winged Lancers afflict additional leadership penalties when charging in flanking. Lower leadership units will route almost immediately if hit in the back or the side. Just make sure you get them out of protracted melee!
