Strategy[]
As Elspeth, your first several turns are quite simple: Defeat your intial minor punching bag of a faction, deal with the 2 local Greenskins factions then be prepared to march towards Sylvania and defeat Vlad. Do remember to join Reikland's war against whatever enemies they're fighting against, especially their intial Beastmen enemies, as this may help them to sign several pacts with. You can either rush researching Scion of the Empire or recruit Amethyst Wizards from Gardens of Morr for reasons below.
Secondly: Averland can be a thorn for the Graveyard Rose. If they do not want military access pact, it's hard to trepass their lands. You'll either have to destroy them to take their lands which can impact your diplomacy and will cost you resources, or wait until they're weaken enough to sign it which cost you time. In first scenario, build a Gardens of Morr with Militia of Morr to recruit mid-tier units easily in the early game, in the 2nd one, build it in Steingart. This will allow you to build up an army to face against the hordes of upcoming undead of Vlad.
After reducing the undead population to zero, you'll have to deal with reuniting the Empire, WHILE ensuring that other Empire major factions are alive. If they're near-death, you'll have to use Gardens of Morr to travel there and assist them in combat against whatever threats they're having. Not to mention, your usual allies, especially non-Empire ones, may capture an Empire's settlement which basically softlocks you from achieving the highest level in Imperial Authority.
How to more easily recruit distant Legendary Lords[]
First, establish contact with the Cult of Sigmar, The Huntsmarshal's Expedition and The Golden Order. You can do this early in the game by constructing the Gardens of Morr building that allows you to recruit two Amethyst Wizards, then send one south and one west. Either use the Lustrian Sea Lane to travel from Markus to Gelt or use the one that contacted the Cult of Sigmar to find Gelt. Set up a Garden in each region or you can research Scion of the Empire which will reveal non-hostile Empire factions capital (Strangely enough, this technology also reveals Southern Realms factions capitals).
Declaring war on the enemies of the other two Legendary Lords will make it easier to confederate them. They have a very low chance of targeting you. If things get too heated, send Elspeth using the Garden to assist the faction that requires help. Capture enemy settlements then sell back to them to earn diplomatic favor and cash.
Wissenland & Nuln is probably the easiest faction to ensure confederation, since it's quite likely that they, the faraway Empire factions, survive until you research Scion of the Empire, assuming you rush it and Reikland is possibly the 2nd best since they can just click 3-4 buttons and instantly confederate any Empire factions.
Trivia[]
- The name of the faction combines the province of Wissenland with the nominally independent city-state of Nuln (which is situated within the borders of Wissenland). Lore-wise, the actual capital of Wissenland is Wissenburg.
- Hertwig van Hal, before becoming a Witch Hunter, was a doctor in Nuln.
- There're some cut units of the Imperial Gunnery Schools: Amethyst Outriders (Blunderbusses) and Amethyst Ironsides (Repeater Handgunners) that existed within the game's files but later completely removed.
